Beta2-adrenoceptor agonist fenoterol enhances functional repair of regenerating rat skeletal muscle after injury.

Beta(2)-adrenoceptor agonists such as fenoterol are anabolic in skeletal muscle, and because they promote hypertrophy and improve force-producing capacity, they have potential application for enhancing muscle repair after injury. No previous studies have measured the beta(2)-adrenoceptor population in regenerating skeletal muscle or determined whether fenoterol can improve functional recovery in regenerating muscle after myotoxic injury. In the present study, the extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscle of the right hindlimb of deeply anesthetized rats was injected with bupivacaine hydrochloride, which caused complete degeneration of all muscle fibers. The EDL muscle of the left hindlimb served as the uninjured control. Rats received either fenoterol (1.4 mg x kg(-1) x day(-1)) or an equal volume of saline for 2, 7, 14, or 21 days. Radioligand binding assays identified a approximately 3.5-fold increase in beta(2)-adrenoceptor density in regenerating muscle at 2 days postinjury. Isometric contractile properties of rat EDL muscles were measured in vitro. At 14 and 21 days postinjury, maximum force production (P(o)) of injured muscles from fenoterol-treated rats was 19 and 18% greater than from saline-treated rats , respectively, indicating more rapid restoration of function after injury. The increase in P(o) in fenoterol-treated rats was due to increases in muscle mass, fiber cross-sectional area, and protein content. These findings suggest a physiological role for beta(2)-adrenoceptor-mediated mechanisms in muscle regeneration and show clearly that fenoterol hastens recovery after injury, indicating its potential therapeutic application.

In recent times, the lead becomes great importance in environmental pollution, including its nanoparticles. In the literature, there is little data on the changes in the liver after the exposure with lead nanoparticles. The purpose of this study was the identification and determination of macroscopic, microscopic, and biochemical changes of the structural elements of the rat 's liver exposed to the action of lead compounds. The study was carried out on 60 male Wistar rats . The first and second groups of animals were intraperitoneally injected with colloidal solution of nanoparticles of Lead Sulfide size of 10 nm and 30 nm, and the third group was intraperitoneally injected with a solution of nitrate lead. Macroscopic, histological, histochemical, biochemical methods and gas chromatography were used to identify the changes of fatty acids metabolism. The experiment has found that body weights of animals in all tested groups were decreased after 6 weeks of lead nanoparticles injection, while relative liver weight was increased. Levels of total lipids and cholesterol, total protein and albumin in the blood serum in study groups have decreased, and the level of triglycerides and glucose have increased. Moderate dystrophic changes were observed in the histological examinations of the liver , and this was confirmed by morphometric and densitometric parameters. Changes of fatty acid composition of lipids of the liver exposed to nanoparticles were the result of increasing arachidonic fatty acid content and reduction of the stearic fatty acid content. Thus, it has been proven by the experiment that the effect of lead nanoparticles depends on their size.

We all possess some degree of intuition; from the most cynical, to the most naive of us. As Einstein once said of intuition:

I sometimes FEEL that I am right. I do not KNOW that I am.

And this is precisely what intuition is at its core: a sudden and inexplicable feeling that arises within us, a feeling that tells us to take this chance, to go down that path, to accept that opportunity, to open that door. Intuition also tells us what not to do, what to be careful of, when to be vigilant and when to stop. As novelist Dean Koontz summarized beautifully:

Intuition is seeing with the soul.

The Soundless Voice

Derived from the Latin word Intueri which means “to look at, to consider”, intuition is associated with the right side of the brain. As you may or may not know, the right side of the brain is responsible for creativity, imagination, musical and artistic aptitude, and emotions as opposed to the left side of the brain which is connected to logic, reasoning, and critical thinking.
